Writing Samples: Websites
Working with clients to design and build websites always involves creating and editing written content. Helping clients create the best micro-content (navigation labels, section and content summaries, etc.) is an important part of creating an effective information design. My experience has been that many clients prefer to write their own primary site content. In those cases, I worked with them to understand the unique requirements of web copy and provided editorial advice.
Below are some examples of my web writing work:
-
Geek Squad Intelligence blog
From 2013 until 2016 I led the team in charge of creating and publishing content on the Geek Squad blogging platform. I worked with Agents to create blog posts on a variety of tech subjects. Posts went out under the subject matter expert's byline. Here are some links to posts I ghostwrote:
-
Lineage Designs
www.lineagedesigns.com
Created a website for a silversmith who specializes in creating Native American-themed jewelry. Wrote all the content of the site, with the exception of the "Seven Sisters" story and the descriptions of the artist's imagery. -
ReGov.com for The Public Strategies Group
Archived version of the site.
For four years I worked with The Public Strategies Group to design and maintain the content on a site for government reinventors. I created all the micro-content (link labels, content descriptions, etc.), managed design upgrades, and added content through the content management system that fed the site. -
Minnesota Department of Revenue
Revenue site circa 2002
As the Department of Revenue's webmaster for six years, I was responsible for maintaining all the content on the site. I wrote the site-specific content and coached tax specialists on creating web-ready content for their segments of the site. Please note: The link above is to a version of the Revenue website from 2002. This version provides a glimpse of the writing work I did on the site. Many of the links will not work because I was not able to load the entire site onto my server.
