Post-Baccalaureate Special Education Licence

 

Concordia University offers a Special Education Teacher Education Program (SETEP) that is specifically designed to respond to the needs of special educators in culturally diverse, urban settings. At present, educators have access to two special education programs at the graduate level: Learning Disabilities and Emotional Behavioral Disorders. Undergraduate courses taken as part of the Concordia Special Education Minor can be applied to meet the required Special Education core of the post-baccalaureate licensure program.

Learning Disabilities: Initial License

(Available to persons holding a baccalaureate degree but no MN license)

General Education prerequisite

PSY101 Introduction to Psychology 4

Prerequisites to Admission to Teacher Education

ED200 Introduction to Teaching (25 hours) 1
PSY215 Child and Adolescent Development Psychology for K-12 Educators 4
ED336 Educational Psychology (25 hours) 2

Minimum 2.5 CGPA for all undergraduate coursework.

Requirements for Admission to Teacher Education

  • Prepare portfolio during ED200.
  • Submit portfolio and schedule an interview the semester following ED200.
  • Complete faculty interview.
  • Take Praxis I (PPST), reading (173), writing (172), mathematics (171).

Requirements for Minnesota license

  • Complete First Aid/CPR requirements.
  • Complete program with 2.5 CGPA.
  • Meet with registrar to verify requirements completed.
  • Pass Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6 exam (passing score: 159 effective 9/1/05) and Content Knowledge Exam: Education of Exceptional Students (passing score: 158 effective 9/1/05).
  • Submit license application to College of Education.

(Available to persons holding a current MN license)

  • Complete admission short form, attach copy of teaching license, planning form, Conduct Review form, and submit to College of Education.
  • Minimum 2.5 CGPA for all undergraduate coursework.
